Colangelo “Tip” Tolbert II is a Houston-born saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, educator, and creative visionary whose sound turns any room into a story. A dynamic performer with a gift for connecting people, Tip has built a reputation for blending soulful musicality with magnetic showmanship—delivering moments that feel as unforgettable as they are electrifying.
From luxury events to arena-level energy, Tip has performed for major brands and organizations including Tito’s Vodka, Travel To Go, RIU Resorts, and the Houston Texans Association. His ability to read a crowd, elevate the vibe, and deliver seamless in-game-style entertainment has made him one of Houston’s most versatile rising performers.
Tip’s musical journey has taken him across the country, performing throughout Texas, New York, New Jersey, and Georgia. He has represented Prairie View A&M University on national stages, performing in top ensembles such as the University Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra, Concert Band, and Pep Band. His dedication earned him coveted placements in two prestigious national ensembles: the HBCU All-Star Jazz Band—comprised of the top jazz musicians across 100+ HBCUs—and the historic 369th Infantry Regiment Band, famously known as the “Harlem Hellfighters,” where he toured the East Coast performing at historically significant World War II sites.
Beyond the spotlight, Tip is an educator at heart. His early career as an elementary music teacher in Houston ISD ignited his mission to use music as a tool for empowerment. Through his brand Tip Tolbert Music, he created a scholarship fund dedicated to supporting young musicians with essential resources—reeds, mouthpieces, literature, and more—ensuring students have the tools to rise to their full potential.
Tip holds a Bachelor’s degree in General Music with a minor in Communications from Prairie View A&M University, and he is completing his Master’s degree in Music Performance Technology from Southern Utah University. His academic training, paired with his entrepreneurial drive, fuels his innovative approach to performance, production, and music education.
Whether onstage at a gala, in a packed stadium, or guiding students toward their purpose, Tip Tolbert brings passion, precision, and high-voltage artistry to everything he touches. His mission is simple: create moments that move people, unite communities, and elevate the culture—one performance at a time.
